Pharmaceuticals and Personal Care Products As Pollutants
Jul 20: The U.S. EPA has established a new website dedicated to the scientific issues associated with the occurrence of Pharmaceuticals and Personal Care Products (PPCPs) in the environment. The EPA says studies have shown that pharmaceuticals are present in our nation's waterbodies. Further research suggests that certain drugs may cause ecological harm. The EPA indicates it "is committed to investigating this topic and developing strategies to help protect the health of both the environment and the public. Pesticide Notification in Schools
In March 2005, all Michigan parents gained the right to know about pesticide use in their child's school or daycare-before it even happens. Although it has been on the books for over two years, limited public attention has made this law somewhat obscure. Introduced as
Public Act 24, this new law basically says that school administrators must notify all parents 48 hours in advance of any pesticide sprays in or around the school.
